Lost Judgment is the upcoming sequel to Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's action game that debuted in 2018. While the Judgment series is a spin-off of the Yakuza games, it's been passed the torch and is carrying Yakuza's action-focused gameplay forward. At the same time, future mainline titles will feature the turn-based combat systems popularized in Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Join the Game Informer crew for another episode of New Gameplay Today, wherein they show off their hands-on footage of Lost Judgment on PS5.

The game begins as Takayuki Yagami, Lost Judgment's protagonist, is contracted to investigate a new case around a man on trial for public misconduct. The game's official website summarizes the plot best:

"December 2021, Tokyo district court. Akihiro Ehara stands accused of groping a woman on a crowded train. A bystander’s video footage of his attempt to flee the scene and subsequent apprehension is all over the news, and public outcry demands a maximum sentence. 'Three days ago, a dead body was found in an abandoned building in Yokohama. Have you identified it yet?' he proclaims as confusion cuts through the courtroom. His defense lawyer, Saori Shirosaki, has no doubt that crucial details of the situation have been overlooked, as Ehara was not even tried for the murder. She contacts detective Takayuki Yagami to investigate this further."
