I'm always ready for a roguelike indie title with a beautiful hand-drawn look, but the recently revealed Cult of the Lamb has a whole new twist on the concept. You'll play as a bright-eyed and fluffy-tailed cult leader shepherding a flock of adorable woodland creatures. Your goal is to build up your precious community of followers and spread the word of your dark lord. The game is being made by indie developer Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital. The publisher is known for its unique titles, like Death's Door, a game about a soul-collecting organization of crows that scored high marks in our review.
Cult of the Lamb's announcement trailer, revealed during Gamecom's Opening Night Live, was visually arresting. It wavered between a striking red and black color palette and the vibrant greens of the woodland realm. The story looks to be centered around one fateful moment when, at the very last second, an evil force saves your little lamb's life from a headman's ax. In the process, you gain some unholy but cool-looking powers. This manifests in the trailer in various ways, like being able to summon a sword out of thin air to defeat those that had planned to sacrifice you the moment before and shoot fire from your hands. You can check out the full trailer above.
To help your cult be the best it can be, you can forage through the forest for resources to craft buildings. You'll also occasionally want to give the gathered believers a moving sermon and make sure the dark powers are happy with frequent rituals. When you're not busy with these tasks, you can explore Cult of the Lamb's randomly generated world filled with deadly enemies and other cult leaders looking to muscle in on your territory. This adorable and disturbing indie is coming in 2022 to PC and console sometime in 2022.
