The upcoming remake of 2010’s Nier will feature a “powerful new boss” and an extra, retroactive link to the 2017 sequel, Nier Automata. Nier producer Yosuke Saito revealed the news in an interview with PCGamesN about Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139..., which is set to launch on April 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. He revealed that as well as the game’s aesthetic upgrades, “there are some extra story sections that we were unable to put in the original. There is also a heartrendingly sad but unbelievably powerful new boss lying in wait for you somewhere.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/29/nier-replicant-ver-122474487139-the-final-preview"] Naturally the full details on this added content are being kept under wraps, but it’s an exciting prospect for Nier series fans who may not have been expecting new elements in the remake. Saito also told PCGamesN that the game will retroactively reference the sequel, Nier Automata. As well as “something” regarding a beloved Nier character, Saito says that there is “a new story, an extra link to Automata, and something for fans of ‘Dad Nier‘ too.” With ‘Dad Nier’, Saito is referencing the fact that in the west, the protagonist of 2010’s Nier was a father figure to Yonah, while in the Japanese version the player character is her older brother. In the remake Nier Replicant, the decisions was made to make the protagonist the older brother from the Japanese version of the game for all audiences.
