As Hixson points out, the hoax seems to have been achieved by manually editing the Riot website to add existing images of Project L and the fake text. As it stands, we know about as little about Project L as we did before, with an initial 2019 announcnement saying that it's a fighting game set in the League of Legends universe, and was in the early stages of development. NFTs (non-fungible tokens, a means of authenticating a unique digital file) have become a major, controversial topic in recent months, with a craze for buying them leading to digital artist Beeple selling a JPG for $69 million. However, there are concerns over the environmental impact of NFT upkeep, which has led to a backlash. Some games have begun adopting the approach already, such as Blankos Block Party, which recently announced an NFT marketplace within the game.
