Pokemon Unite Reveal Becomes The Pokemon Company's Most Disliked Video on YouTube

Yesterday's Pokemon Unite presentation has quickly become The Pokemon Company's most disliked video on YouTube, ever. Yesterday's Pokemon Presents broadcast has accrued over 170,000 dislikes in under 24 hours (as noted by Nintendo Life), a strong response from fans after the hotly anticipated reveal turned out to be a MOBA-like where you play as teams of Pokemon, earning abilities and vying for control of a top-down battlefield. In a further showing of community reaction to the new game, the channel's second most disliked video is the standalone trailer for the game, with over 55,000 dislikes. Both videos have seen their dislikes far outstrip the likes given.  While not a solid measurement of overall fan reaction to the game, it's very clear that Unite's announcement has been a controversial one. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/24/pokemon-unite-full-gameplay-presentation"] Many were expecting something more conventional from the presentation, which was announced last week following the reveal of New Pokemon Snap, which is coming to the Nintendo Switch. At the time, many believed that Pokemon President Tsunekazu Ishihara was teasing a Johto-set follow-up to Pokemon Let's Go after internet sleuths caught a line-up of suspicious plush 'mons in the cabinet behind Ishihara when he first teased yesterday's conference. Pokemon Unite, a "strategic team-based battle game", arrives thanks to a collaboration between The Pokemon Company and Tencent's TiMi Studios, which previously worked on Call of Duty: Mobile and Arena of Valor. Some of the confirmed Pokemon that are playable in the game include Snorlax, Haunter, Pikachu, Squirtle and more. Pokemon Unite will land on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices and will feature cross-play. It's being billed as a "free-to-start" game, and we'll be sure to keep you posted when we hear about a potential launch date for the game.
