God Of War Coming to PC in January

2018's God of War is on its way to PC, arriving for Steam and Epic Games Store on January 14. It's available for pre-order now for $49.99 USD / £39.99.

Steam and Epic Games Store listings for the game appeared today, adding that the game has enhanced visuals, unlocked framerates, 4K resolution options, and Nvidia DLSS and Reflex support. The game will support multiple controllers as well as mouse and keyboard, and will include 21:9 ultrawide screen support. Exact PC specifications have not yet been announced.

Sony subsequently confirmed the release on the PS Blog, with Sony Santa Monica's Grace Orlady saying, "Our primary goal when bringing God of War to PC was to highlight the exceptional content the team created and leverage the powerful hardware that the platform offers to create a uniquely breathtaking and high-performance version of the game."

Orlady added more details about the game's visuals, saying it includes, "a wide range of graphical presets and options so you can fine-tune your visual experience based on your setup. From higher resolution shadows and improved screen space reflections to enhancements to the ambient occlusion pipeline with GTAO and SSDO – God of War on the PC can create striking visual quality unique to the platform."

The PC version will also include some bonus content:

  • Death’s Vow Armor Sets for Kratos and Atreus
  • Exile’s Guardian Shield Skin
  • Buckler of the Forge Shield Skin
  • Shining Elven Soul Shield Skin
  • Dökkenshieldr Shield Skin

God of War was one of many games included in a leak of Nvidia's GeForce Now database. At the time, Nvidia said that the database was "used only for internal tracking and testing. Inclusion on the list is neither confirmation nor an announcement of any game."

God of War on PC is likely to be a hugely popular choice. We awarded the game a 10/10 review and subsequently made it our 2018 game of the year. Recently, voters in a series of IGN polls named it the best video game of all time.

PlayStation has made a commitment to port more of its exclusives to PC, and even bought a PC porting specialist to help it do so. Sony's current model is to release games as PlayStation exclusives, before porting them to PC some time after release, a strategy Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has criticised.

Next up for God of War is a sequel, Ragnarok, which will expand not just on the first game's story, but its world and combat. It will also mark the end of the series' Norse saga. Ragnarok was delayed into 2022, which Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge has said was down to a surgery he underwent.
