Dauntless Review
If you stripped Monster Hunter down to its core components and redesigned it as a free-to-play (but not pay-to-win), online-only game, you'd get something very close to Dauntless. It takes most of the best parts of Capcom's iconic franchise and redeploys them in a way that's accessible and fun with a whole lot less baggage. While it can lack the depth that arises from that complexity, Dauntless’s streamlined approach offers something else that more than makes up for it.
The hook is simple: you’re a slayer, and you slay big, nasty monsters called behemoths. That’s it – slaying is basically all you do. The lack of a real story beyond inconsequential blocks of text at the beginning and end of missions that foster little empathy was a bummer at first, but I quickly forgot about it. Then again, storytelling has never been the selling point in other games in this genre (such as Monster Hunter itself or God Eater) so it’s hard to say I miss it very much. Instead of being a source of lore-heavy dialogue, every NPC in Dauntless is either a vendor or questgiver in the hub town, so when you’re not customizing things in menus you’re out in the wild chopping off tails, dodging fireballs, and slaying enormous beasts. It’s very focused.

15 Disappointing Video Game Endings
Did Game of Thrones' ending drive you crazy? What about Lost's? The Sopranos'? Or, moving away from TV for a second, what about a video game where you've invested dozens upon dozens of hours of your time, become deeply invested in its lore and characters, only to discover its ending has the consistency of a wet fart?
Here, we've rounded up some of the IGN staff's most hated video game endings. Take note, not all of these are 100% serious, and feel free to tell us why we're wrong in the comment section below!
Borderlands
As fulfilling as the loot system might have been in the original Borderlands game, you spent the entire campaign learning about a vault full of wondrous treasure and alien technology. By the end of it, you learn there was only a giant tentacle monster hoarding... nothing.

Mortal Kombat 11 DLC Trailer Highlights Shang Tsung Gameplay
Mortal Kombat 11's Kombat Pack has been detailed in a new trailer that revealed Shang Tsung gameplay, alongside the names of other upcoming guest characters who will be released subsequently over the coming months.
Early Access to fighter Shang Tsung will be available on June 18, as well a Klassic Arcade Ninja Skin Pack. The Kombat Pack in its entirety will introduce the following fighters:
- Shang Tsung
- Nightwolf
- Sindel
- Spawn
- Two more guest characters
The reveal trailer, viewable above, does not indicate who those other two characters may be, but as the tease of a couple more fighters is displayed, the sound of a chainsaw can be heard, along with blood splattering the on-screen text. The Kombat Pack is available individually for $39.99 or as part of the Mortal Kombat 11 Premium Edition for $99.99. All characters, skin, and gear in the Kombat Pack will be released in the coming months.

Spelling Bee Championship Ends in Insane 8-Way Tie
In a historic turn of events, the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee ended in an eight-way tie. The eight finalists, ranging from ages 12 to 14, went 20 consecutive rounds without misspelling a word. That’s when it was declared by Dr. Jacques Bailly, the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s official announcer, that all remaining contestants would be named “co-champions,” according to Time.
The winning word for each champion were: auslaut, erysipelas, bougainvillea, aiguillette, pendeloque, palama, cernuous, and odylic.
There have been three other instances of Spelling Bee ties in 2014, 2015 and 2016, although each of those only saw two co-champions, which goes to show just how unprecedented it was to have eight winners this year. The prize for first place is $50,000 and a trophy, but rather than splitting the winnings, each co-champion will receive the full $50,000 and their own trophy.

Dying Light 2 -- Road To E3
I love a good zombie game, and I particularly love a good zombie game that plays with the format. We last saw Dying Light 2 at last year’s E3 - where it was announced - and the demo promised some fun new twists to the formula in an open world designed to inspire some frantic clambering as you’re pursued by hordes of the undead.
Firstly, its sandbox - 4x bigger than the sandbox in the original - can be changed depending on your choices. There are a bunch of factions scattered throughout its “modern dark age” world, and your loyalties to them will change what resources are available to you as Dying Light 2 progresses. For example, if you choose to cut a deal with some bandits who have killed a man instead of avenging the man, you’ll align yourself with their faction.

OPINION: Death Stranding Won't Be As Fun As Death Stranding Theories
Welp, Death Stranding finally has a release date, and come November 8th, we’ll finally be able to unpack its many mysteries and maybe actually understand that what the Hell Hideo Kojima’s latest game is about… But as much as I’m dying to play it myself, part of me really doesn’t want the rampant speculation to end.
Much of the fun of Kojima’s games is how much they mess with the player, and even as far back as the first Metal Gear Solid, they’ve been pushing the boundaries of how players interact with the game. Between hiding Meryl’s codec frequency in plain sight on the back of the game case, to having Psycho Mantis make the screen go black until we switched controller ports, Kojima’s idea of how we should play a video game was not limited to the simple act of pushing buttons on a controller to make things happen on a screen.

The State of E3 2019
The biggest names in gaming are gathering in LA, the rumor mill is churning, and E3 2019 is nearly upon us.
Headed into its 25th year, E3 remains the most anticipated event in all of gaming. Tens of thousands will head to LA, while millions more tune in online, for a days-long barrage of new game announcements from AAA studios and indie devs alike.
E3 2019 should be especially interesting, as we find ourselves on the cusp of a new console generation, but without too much info about what it will look like. And there have been some big changes to the conference lineup — EA has opted not to hold a press conference, while Sony is skipping E3 entirely for the first time in show history. Microsoft, meanwhile, is preparing its shift from Xbox One to its next console, reportedly launching in 2020, and Google could potentially have a presence with its planned “summer” conference as it aims to introduce its accessible game streaming with Stadia.

Five Reasons Why Animal Crossing's Tom Nook Is An Evil Monster
Animal Crossing is a classic video game franchise loved by many gamers everywhere because it’s a charming and relaxing good time. It is also not loved by other many gamers everywhere because it’s slow and you can’t use guns. To be fair, guns would probably make Animal Crossing easier because you could rob people for money instead of shaking trees, but one character in Animal Crossing who doesn’t need a gun to rob people is nefarious bandit and real estate mogul Tom Nook.
Tom Nook is technically adorable because he has a wiggly nose and dresses like he’s read all of the Wheel of Time books, but this garbage eating river bear is actually a total monster and here’s why.

Cadence of Hyrule Release Set for June
The hilariously long-named Cadence of Hyrule - Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda will be coming out sometime this June according to a new trailer, though we still don’t have an exact date yet.
The trailer comes from Nintendo Japan’s Indie World series and is currently only available in Japanese, but it also gives a look at brand new gameplay. You can watch it below to get a glimpse at some new enemies and areas whether you speak Japanese or not:
This comes hot off the heels of a potential leak earlier this week that claimed Cadence of Hyrule would surprise launch on May 30th. Clearly, that didn’t happen, but now we know it’s not too far off.

Warhammer: Chaosbane Review
Holy crap, there’ve been a lot of Warhammer games lately! But few have been as good as Warhammer: Chaosbane. This action-RPG has it where it counts, with fun classes, good boss fights, and a decent loot system. It trips up on presentation in some places, including some terrible voice acting, but it manages to get the feel of Games Workshop’s dark fantasy setting right.
The moment-to-moment combat in Chaosbane is some of the best I’ve gotten my bloodstained hands on in recent times. Whether you’re using a controller or a mouse and keyboard, moving, slashing, casting spells, and leaping through hordes of cultists to fire off a barrage of arrows all feels precise and impactful – though you can’t switch between them without going into a menu, which I found annoying since I like to fight with my thumbsticks and switch to seamlessly managing inventory with my clicker. Encounters have a satisfying flow with a good variety of enemies, though there aren’t a lot of elites with memorable or dangerous abilities you have to watch out for on the difficulties available at the start. They do show up when you unlock the higher levels, though.

Marvel's Avengers Will Feature Hero Customisation, Single and Multiplayer
Marvel's Avengers only got an official title yesterday, but seems to have mistakenly gotten some early gameplay details soon after.

SSBUBot, a feed that pulls server update information for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, has posted notes about the latest potential upcoming update - 3.1.0, which will add, as early as tonight, a VR mode that is compatible with the Toy-Con VR Goggles to Smash Ultimate.
While not much is known as to what this mode will entail, it promises that "a whole new perspective on the Smash action awaits," and means Smash Ultimate will join Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as big Nintendo first-party titles that have added VR support.

Death Stranding: Special Guest Directors Don't Play Their Own Characters
Yesterday's Death Stranding trailer confirmed the appearances of both Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn in Hideo Kojima's next game. But they really are, quite literally, just that: appearances.
In a tweet, Kojima explained that Winding Refn has had his face and body scanned for the game's Heartman character, but that another actor is responsible for animating and voicing him. The same process has been applied to del Toro.
I asked my bestie, Nicolas, to be “HEARTMAN” in DS as special guest. We 3D scanned his head, body, and facial expressions to make his 3D model, but his acting and voice are done by a different performer, same as with Guillermo. pic.twitter.com/wOGt0LfX89

Red Faction Evolution May Be in Development According to Leak
A new Red Faction game, known as Red Faction Evolution, may be in development at THQ Nordic, should an Nvidia leak prove real.
Nvidia recently posted a list of games compatible with its Ansel technology (via Metacouncil forums and PC Gamer); a PC screenshot feature that allows 360 degree images to be captured. Among those compatible games is a title called Red Faction Evolution. There are four games in the Red Faction series, none of which are called Evolution. So is a new game on the horizon?

Cultist Simulator Dev Reveals New Game, Book of Hours
Weather Factory has announced an Anthology Edition of its debut game, Cultist Simulator - and dropped an official announcement of its next, Book of Hours.
Cultist Simulator: Anthology Edition is a definitive version of the game with brand new additions, a celebration of the bizarre narrative card game’s 1st birthday, and seems also to mark the end of the game’s development. Thankfully, we know what’s coming next, thanks to a new trailer:
Book of Hours began life as a speculative tweet from Weather Factory co-founder Alexis Kennedy (you can read it below), but it’s become more than the mooted Cultist Simulator ‘expandalone’ in the months since that first mention.
“That original tweet really was the product of about ninety seconds thought,” explains Kennedy to IGN, “and we've grown the team so we can do something a bit fancier. So it's going to be a fully-fledged game. It's all the same setting

Death Stranding: Everything New We've Spotted In the Teased Gameplay
This story is developing, and will be updated as we spot more.
If you've been on the Internet today, you'll have noticed that Kojima Productions is teasing Death Stranding.
Over on Twitch, a looping set of clips - obscured by black goo and slowly being cleared by Death Stranding's ever-present handprints - appears to be showing new gameplay and cinematic sections of the game. Over time, we seem to be hearing more and more of the clips' audio, too.
On the surface, it looks similar to last year's gameplay trailer, but even with much of the screen covered up, it's clear there are some elements in there we haven't seen before. Here's everything we've spotted so far:

Death Stranding Leak Suggests November 8 Release Date
A now-removed post on the official Taiwanese Facebook page has suggested that the release date for Death Stranding is November 8, 2019.
The post was noticed and screen grabbed by Twitter account NanoGuidingStar, and brought to wider attention by famed games Twitter account Nibel. A second source provided another screen grab of the post, this time from a mobile account. The post has since been deleted by the PlayStation account, and so there is currently no way of verifying if this is a genuine leak or a hoax. Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers Preview
This preview is based on play of an in-development build of FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers, and content in the final version is subject to change.
Final Fantasy XIV’s newest expansion, Shadowbringers, is upon us with the official release on July 2nd and early access on June 28th for those that pre-ordered. I attended the North America press event in San Francisco and got a few hours with the gameplay demo. Aside from the intriguing story elements about becoming the Warrior of Darkness, this expansion has a ton of interesting changes and updates that I believe all types of players will be happily surprised by.
In Shadowbringers, we have two new jobs to pick from: the gunbreaker and the dancer. The former is a new tank job that is built around the fan favorite gunblade, while the latter is a DPS job – one of many classic Final Fantasy jobs that had yet to be added to the MMO. I tried out both but I spent a majority of my time with the gunbreaker because let’s be honest, the gunblade is just so badass.

Cricket 19 Review
After a well-intentioned yet ultimately disappointing detour into the NBA Jam-inspired, super-powered swashbuckling of 2018’s Big Bash Boom, Big Ant Studios has made a confident return to the more traditional cricket game crease with Cricket 19. Using the core engine and feature set of 2017’s Ashes Cricket as a base, Cricket 19 breathes life into its presentation, smartens up its AI, and bolts on a compelling new scenario mode, making it look and feel more authentic than a broken-in Baggy Green — complete with a few frayed edges.
Although it’s dropped the ‘Ashes’ brand from its moniker, Cricket 19 is still the officially licensed game of this year’s contest between Australia and England and thus all of the men’s and women’s squads from each country remain in this year’s game. Joining the existing Australian grounds from Ashes Cricket are the five English grounds to be featured in the 2019 series, each of them realised with convincing detail from the vibrant red slab that is The Point at Old Trafford, right down to the Father Time windvane that’s perched high above Lord’s.

Super Mario Maker 2 Won't Allow Friends to Play Together Online
Super Mario Maker 2, as it stands, will not allow friends to play online together and will only allow online play with random players as "with global leaderboards, the matchmaking for competitive play would be compromised if you could play with friends."
Speaking to Nintendo World Report, a Nintendo Treehouse representative confirmed the news at the Super Mario Maker 2 press event last week and confirmed that the only way to play with friends in either co-op or versus mode is through one system or local wireless play.
GameXplain followed up with Nintendo about this report and Nintendo responded with confirmation that what the Treehouse representative said was true.

Trover Saves the Universe Review
I have seen and done terrible things. I have pushed innocents off cliffs, slaughtered pets in front of their owners, and ground up more Power Babies than I can count – and I did it all without leaving my floating chair, laughing the whole time. Trover Saves the Universe did this to me. It’s an action-platformer from the mind and voice of Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, and while it technically isn’t connected to that show in any way, its humor is just as messed up and its gameplay is nearly as much fun as watching an episode unfold.
Primarily designed for VR (though playable without it as well), it puts you in the hovering shoes of a Chairopian, an alien race whose members never get out of a fancy, teleporting chair that’s controlled by a device that conveniently looks like a PS4 controller. Helping you on this profane trip is your partner, Trover – a purple monster with babies for eyes and a laser sword in his hand – who you use to run, jump, and fight through a short series of strange and often hilarious alien worlds.

The Avengers Project - Road to E3 2019
Chalk it up to Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War taking all the focus away from anything else with that hero team in the name, but the last time we saw Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ The Avengers Project was...the first time we saw The Avengers Project.
Square Enix debuted a teaser trailer for the Marvel Games title from Crystal Dynamics, developers of the 2011 Tomb Raider reboot, back in January 2017. The original, cinematic teaser trailer flashed over what appeared to be the fallout of a fight or some other catastrophe. Bruce Banner’s glasses, the hand of Iron Man’s armor, Thor’s hammer Mjlonir, Captain America’s shield can all be seen strewn about, before ending with the hashtag “Reassemble.”

What We Want From Cyberpunk 2077 at E3
Way back in early 2013, CD Projekt dropped Cyberpunk’s first trailer, promising to be a triple-A adaptation of the classic pen-and-paper roleplaying game. At the time, CDPR hadn’t yet released The Witcher 3, so they weren’t quite as highly regarded as they are now. Cyberpunk’s first trailer was CGI, so its gameplay remained a mystery, and the release date of “when it’s ready” didn’t exactly have people reaching for their wallets, but the aesthetic? Ooh, they nailed it.
Cyberpunk is a tricky genre to pull off because it’s a moving target. We basically live in a post-post-cyberpunk dystopia now, and concepts that were once total science fiction have since become things we deal with on a daily basis, so trying to realize the vision of a futuristic dystopia from 35 years ago without borrowing too heavily from the dystopia that we actually have today is a fine line to walk.

This Godzilla Toy Is Too Pointy - Up At Noon Episode 6
Hey! Wow, holy crap, you're actually reading this. Welcome to Up At Noon, IGN's dedicated weekend nonsense variety show, a catch-all for the silly goofball nonsense that's too stupid for normal work hours.
This week, we got very excited about Godzilla: King of Monsters, a movie which we thought we'd be seeing on Thursday night, but which doesn't come out until next weekend. My wife bought tickets for opening night because Brian and I are incapable of planning things ourselves, and we got so excited we forgot what week it was.
Bluefin sent over a very nice Godzilla S.H. Monsterarts action figure which is surprisingly pointy, and which you could probably use to pop balloons if that's something you're into. I know people get weird with balloons, but not sure if popping them with toys is a thing. But this is the internet, so you never know.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Explained
There was once a period of the Jedi Order’s history before the dark times that was only hinted at in the decades following the release of Star Wars. There were rumors of thousands of Jedi Knights as peacekeepers, traversing the galaxy to root out and stop the spread of evil. It wasn’t until the 2003 release of the PC/Xbox game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (known by fans as KOTOR) from LucasArts and BioWare that Star Wars fans got a firsthand look at the Jedi at the height of their power—and be one of them. It’s the game that put BioWare at the top of many gamers’ list of favorite studios, and KOTOR has been commonly considered a classic story of the Jedi Knights in the years since.

Why Retro Gaming Fans Should Be Excited About the Sega Genesis Mini
When Nintendo announced the NES Classic, it set a great precedent for how a first-party should treat its gaming history. Nintendo followed up and improved on the formula with the Super NES Classic, and both systems remain the high-water mark for all-in-one classic consoles. But the Sega Genesis Mini is shaping up to be the new gold-standard.
If you care at all about video game history and preservation, you should absolutely add the Genesis Mini to your collection. How can I say something so authoritatively without having so much as seen one in person, much less tested out the games inside? It's easy: M2 is handling the development of the software.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection Review
In an era of classics, minis, and collections where rewind buttons, remixed roms, and refined emulation have become common perks for people revisiting classics, old games are getting the royal treatment these days. Unfortunately, the Castlevania Anniversary Collection has none of those. But it does boast the best games, emulation warts and all, of any recent collection (the Mega Man Legacy Collection is its closest rival). Most of the eight Castlevania games compiled here feel great, look great, and sound great, and though the only real emulation feature is a single save state per game, that’s enough. The Castlevania games are that good.

Assassin's Creed III Remastered for Switch Review
The Nintendo Switch version of Assassin's Creed III Remastered is the version I most wanted to play after hearing the initial announcement. The idea of taking a last-gen console Assassin's Creed game and putting it on Switch sounded totally within the realm of possibility. And having played through the PC and console versions of Assassin’s Creed III Remastered for review, I was excited to have that same experience. Unfortunately, it turns out to be an ugly mess that barely looks better than it did on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and yet somehow runs worse.
Much like the recent Saints Row: The Third - The Full Package, Assassin’s Creed III Remastered runs terribly in docked mode whenever anything happens. It's incredibly noticeable in the opening scene, as the camera pans over the full opera house. The framerate drops way below 30fps, and at times looks like it's struggling to hit 10fps. Outside of the detailed and busy opera house, it doesn't fare much better. Animations, which already look dated, are made even worse by the lousy framerate.

Here's Where to Get an Officially-Licensed 6-Button Sega Genesis Mini Controller
If you buy something through this post, IGN may get a share of the sale. For more, read our Terms of Use.
The Sega Genesis Mini looks like it's going to be the real-deal as far as high-quality all-in-one classic consoles go. With 40 games, two controllers, an AC adapter packed into the box, and authentic 1990s styling, it's looking closer to the NES Classic and Super NES Classic than it is to the PS Classic.
There's one slight problem, though. In spite of the fact some of the games announced for Sega Genesis Mini are almost unplayable on the traditional 3-button controller, the superior 6-button controller isn't available with the US Sega Genesis Mini. The Japanese Mega Drive Mini has a pair right in the box, but here in the States, we're stuck with 50% fewer controller buttons.

Call of Duty: Every IGN Review Score
Pop quiz: how many Call of Duty games have there been? With the all-over-the-place naming convention it's hard to figure out - four WW2 games, three Modern Warfares, three Black Ops (so far) a World at War, and a few futuristic one-offs in a pear tree. The good news is that IGN has been reviewing them since way back in 2003 when the first duty called, so below you can scroll through a gallery of the contemporaneous score and Verdict on every game in the series.
But before you do, a challenge:
1) How many Call of Duty games have received a 10 from IGN?
2) What's the highest-scoring Call of Duty game?
3) What's the lowest-scoring Call of Duty game?

New Nintendo Labo VR Kit Minigame Released
Today, the latest Nintendo Labo VR Kit miningame - Sushi Board - has launched on the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo has slowly but surely been releasing more and more reasons to hold its cardboard creations up to you face and today, they added one new minigame to the roster.
As spotted by Nintendo Life, Sushi Board has released for free and with almost no fuss via the Toy-Con Workshop Channel (found in the news section of the Nintendo Switch Home screen). There’s pretty much no information out there about what this game is, but typically Nintendo’s Labo Kit VR offerings are simple minigames that explore an interesting aspect of VR, as opposed to fully fledged immersive experiences. This joins other recently released Labo VR Kit Minigames like Alien Bopping, in which you, well, bop aliens on the head and a city smashing simulator.

7 Cyberpunk Games To Play While You Wait For Cyberpunk 2077
It’s probably safe to say that the majority of gamers are dying to get our hands on Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red’s epic open-world neon dystopian role-playing game follow-up to The Witcher 3, but we’ve got some time to kill until then, so how can we set the mood?
Well, Cyberpunk isn’t just one game, it’s a whole genre of fiction, spanning every medium, including the interactive ones. Here are seven cyberpunk games you can play while you’re waiting around for 2077.
Deus Ex (ANY OF THEM, seriously, just pick one)
For a lot of gamers, Deus Ex is the definitive cyberpunk game series, offering a mix of first-person action and role-playing that undoubtedly influenced Cyberpunk 2077. Since the original Deus Ex debuted almost twenty years ago, it’s spawned five additional installments.

The 5 Key Features That Make Grid Unique
Codemasters is bringing Grid back to the race track. It’s been five years since the last entry in the series, Grid Autosport, but 2019 is the year when TOCA racing makes its comeback. While it has been away, Codemasters has been thinking about how it can reinvent what Grid is, and double down on the elements that make it unique in the racing game sphere.
In an exclusive interview with IGN, game director Chris Smith tells us the five most important features that Grid is introducing or refining, and how its dedication to telling motorsport stories means it’s a racing game for every kind of player.

Layers of Fear 2 Review
Equal parts unsettling, moving, and eerily beautiful, Layers of Fear 2 is an astonishing feat of storytelling viewed through an off-kilter horror lens that consistently surprised me. It’s a marked improvement on the 2016 original; developer Bloober Team has created one of the most haunting and creatively nuanced horror games I’ve ever played.
Trading surrealist art for classic film, Layers of Fear 2 places you in the role of an actor on an ocean liner. Like the original, Layers of Fear 2 uses the “artist gone mad” concept. This time it’s your movie’s director, whose chilling voice fills the lifeless ship throughout the five Act adventure. Early 1900s-style films play at the end of each act and a chalkboard marks your progress in your room similar to the painting in the original. But unlike the original’s story, which ironically lacked layers, the sequel has more moving parts to decipher, each of which excites and enlightens.

Catherine: Full Body Preview - Every Reason to Play and Replay
When Catherine was first released in 2011 it was unlike any other game I had ever played. It featured fast-paced, adrenaline-inducing puzzle-action, juxtaposed with a dialogue-driven, story-heavy adventure about a 32-year-old man named Vincent, his friends, his long-term girlfriend, Katherine, and his not-so-secret side-piece, Catherine.
Catherine explored mature real-life themes and stories that very few games have explored before or since, and asked questions with no right answers. Eight years later, the revised Catherine: Full Body retains that same uniqueness, and introduces plenty of new reasons to play if you’ve completed it in the past.

How Codemasters’ New Grid Is Going Back to Its Roots
Codemasters has been building and publishing games for over 30 years. Platformers and puzzle games, shooters and sports sims; you name it. These days, however, it’s racing that exclusively powers the pistons in the studio’s high-octane heart.
It’s a genre Codemasters knows inside and out. The company’s current F1 series is the best simulation of a single, contemporary motorsport available, and Dirt Rally 2.0 is the supreme rally sim of the modern era. But there’s a third pillar of the Codemasters racing roster that’s been completely absent this generation – one that can trace its roots all the way back to 1997’s legendary TOCA Touring Car Championship: the much-loved Grid series.

Huge Hearthstone News: Rogue Nerfs, Card Buffs for Every Class and Another Free Legendary!
It’s all happening in the world of Hearthstone right now. Yesterday, Blizzard’s Team 5 announced a number of nerfs designed to address the power level of Rogue, hitting Preparation, Raiding Party and EVIL Miscreant; three of the core cards in the current build of Tempo Rogue. These changes are a reflection of how many powerful cards the class has right now – changing a single card just wouldn’t cut it. While the adjustments are relatively minor on their own, cumulatively they should reduce the power level of the archetype, and promote more diversity within the class.

Dauntless Becomes First Game To Launch With PS4 Cross-Play
Dauntless has fulfilled its "One Dauntless" promise as it launches today with full cross-play and cross-progression on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on the Epic Games Store and is the first game to launch with this functionality for PS4.
Phoenix Labs' free-to-play co-op action-RPG Dauntless' promise of a "One Dauntless" for all players around the world to play together, no matter where they play, was a "truly audacious goal," but one that was very important for the team in its mission.
“When we first started talking about ‘One Dauntless,’ we knew it was a truly audacious goal," Jesse Houston, CEO and co-founder of Phoenix Labs said. "No one has ever launched on console with full cross-play support from the start, but we believed in our vision and, thankfully, our friends at Epic Games, Sony, and Microsoft did too. Keeping the community connected is one of our top priorities, and with all the new players coming in at launch, there’s never been a better time to be a Slayer in Dauntless.”

Observation Review
It would be obvious to refer to Observation as “2001: A Space Odyssey: The Game”. In fact, that's how developer No Code has described it itself. But in truth, this sci-fi thriller melds so much more than that together: Alien’s constant sense of dread and labyrinth of claustrophobic corridors; Solaris’ emotional core and haunting ethereality; and Interstellar’s sheer desperation and explosive moments. All of these combine to create a gripping story that’s threaded around a series of cleverly designed puzzles to create a truly unique gaming experience.
Observation casts you as SAM (Systems Administration and Maintenance), the omnipresent AI of the titular space station. First impressions suggest that the station is abandoned apart from its lone occupant, Dr. Emma Fisher. It quickly becomes apparent something extraterrestrial has been at work, and figuring out what has happened is your first step. It’s a captivating setup, as you endeavour to find out how your mission has taken a turn for the worse.

God of War Sales Have Passed 10 Million
God of War has reached a huge milestone as it has now sold over 10 million units since it launched on the PlayStation 4 in April of last year.
This news was revealed by Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan during his presentation at Sony's IR Day 2019, and while we don't have an exact number, we do know that it joins other PS4 exclusives like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, The Last of Us Remastered, and Horizon: Zero Dawn in the 10 million units sold club.

Skyrim Arrives on the Tabletop in The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms
The world of Skyrim is coming to the tabletop in a new miniatures board game: The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms.
The new game has been developed by Modiphius, the company behind the Fallout: Wasteland Warfare miniatures game. While using the same core mechanics of Wasteland Warfare, the systems have been rewritten and reworked to fit The Elder Scrolls setting.
A skirmish game played with 32mm resin miniature characters (think Warhammer, just a little more Norse-y), players take control of a hero from The Elder Scrolls games and leads a group of henchmen into dungeons such as Dwemer ruins and Nord tombs. But while many miniatures games centre on the prime objective of defeating an enemy, The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms is focusing on something different.

No Man's Sky Vinyl Soundtrack is Coming Back for a Second Run
The vinyl version of “No Man’s Sky: Music for an Infinite Universe” is currently taking pre-orders for a reissue of the companion album.
The album, composed and performed by instrumental electronic/post-rock outfit 65daysofstatic, is a two-disc encapsulation of most of the music you’ll hear in the procedurally generated universe exploration game. There’s singles like “Supermoon,” which typically play as a player enters one of the giant pyramid-like space stations, and the second disc features more longform ambient tracks like “Outlier,” which typically play while the player is exploring the surface of a planet.

Games Seemingly Pull Out of Epic Store Sale
The Epic Games Store began its “Mega Epic Sale,” but has hit some snags along the way, including two games being pulled off the store.
The Mega Epic Sale is offering some pretty major discounts, particularly the sweeping promotion where Epic itself is offering $10 off on all games priced $14.99 or higher, meaning games like Super Meat Boy that are normally $14.99 can currently be purchased for $4.99.
This discount comes courtesy of Epic itself, suggesting they’re paying for portions of the discount that extend beyond their 12% cut of the profits. This discount applies to games already on sale, so long as the sale price is above $14.99. Even unreleased games available for pre-purchase are receiving the discount, and everyone who pre-purchased an unreleased game prior to May 16 for $14.99 and above will get a $10 refund.

Other Mario Styles We Want to See in Super Mario Maker 2
Nintendo’s latest Mario Maker-focused Direct provided a boatload of information on the upcoming Super Mario Maker 2. But it was the one thing they didn’t show that piqued my interest the most.
In the brief moment where switching game styles was shown, the Mario 3D World style stood alone in an “Extra Game Styles” section with a space next to it that looked conveniently large enough for another game style to appear. There’s a good possibility that we were purposely not shown one final Mario style that we’ll be able to build levels in. Given the degree to which the Mario 3D World lets you change up your designs, we got to thinking: what could this mystery style be?

Revealed on the official Minecraft website, Minecraft Earth allows players to collect, explore, collaborate and survive while exploring and building new Minecraft creations in the real world. Like in the original Minecraft, which is celebrating it’s tenth anniversary, Minecraft Earth features old and new mobs, and over time players will discover new variants they can use to populate their builds. For example, you can find Minecraft pigs just hanging out in your neighborhood park.

Team Sonic Racing Review
Boosted by its inventive new team-based system, Team Sonic Racing is a gorgeous arcade racer full of blistering races, mind-bending tracks, and new ideas that make cooperation fun. While the story of its Adventure mode certainly leaves plenty to be desired, the focus is exactly where it should be: the pure, unadulterated speed that makes Sonic so iconic. Sumo Digital’s follow-up to 2012’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed ditches the extra vehicles and transformations in favor of an innovative team dynamic.
Whether you’re drifting around corners to build up your boost meter, hitting pads as you rocket around tracks, or gliding through a teammate’s slipstream, Team Sonic Racing is constantly pushing the speed limit. Every race is a non-stop search for ways to go even faster and the entire team system is built around keeping your group traveling as a single fast-moving unit.

Total War: Three Kingdoms Developer Grants Fan's Dying Wish
A fan with terminal leukemia has been granted his dying wish to play Total War: Three Kingdoms by the game’s developer, Creative Assembly.
Yesterday, Reddit user TheMissingLink5 posted a message on the Total War subreddit explaining that his younger brother, who had been diagnosed with leukemia last year, has just days left to live. His brother is a fan of the Total War games, and hoped to play the latest historical entry in the series - Total War: Three Kingdoms - before he passes away.
Unfortunately his doctors are unsure if he will make it until the game’s May 24 release date next week, and so TheMissingLink5 sought help on Reddit. Within hours, Creative Assembly’s influencer manager, James Given, and community manager, Grace Carroll, reached out to him and sent a key for Total War: Three Kingdoms.

Ubisoft Planning Four AAA Releases Through March 2020
Ubisoft has announced that Skull & Bones will be delayed to after March 2020 and that four AAA games, including Ghost Recon Breakpoint, will be unveiled and released by the end of March 2020.
Revealed via Ubisoft's 2018-2019 financial earnings report, the company's 2019-2020 financial targets of net bookings of around €2,185 million ($2.4 billion USD) will be led by Ghost Recon Breakpoint and the three other AAA titles that are currently unknown.
As for Skull & Bones, the reason it is not expected to release until after March 2020 is due to the fact that Ubisoft's pirate game has been delayed past Ubisoft's 2019-2020 fiscal year, which began on April 1, 2019 and will end on March 31, 2020.

Rainbow Six Siege Teases New Invisible Operator
Today the official Rainbow Six Siege Twitter account shared a glimpse at the game’s next Attack operator, Nøkk, and she is spooky as heck.
The tweet says “Nøkk will strike fear into the hearts of anyone who goes up against her,” with a video that shows her walking through a sewer while glitching in and out of view. You can watch it here:
The fixed camera perspective is reminiscent of Siege’s security cameras, and that mixed with Nøkk seemingly turning invisible has lead many people to assume that she will have a similar power to the Defense operator Vigil.

The Last of Us Part II Is Entering Final Stages of Development
While it’s still unclear how far away The Last of Us Part II’s release is, the game’s co-director has indicated Naughty Dog is hiring new talent to help “close out” its development.

Total War: Three Kingdoms Preview
Total War: Three Kingdoms offers a somewhat more guided narrative than previous games in the series for those who want it. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel on which it's based is full of iconic moments of heroism, betrayal, and tragedy - and the grand campaign presents each warlord with dilemmas based on these moments to guide the campaign. Will you stick to the script or go off-book?
This preview highlights the ambitious Yuan Shu and a couple different directions his campaign can go. In the Romance, he would side with the valorous Sun Jian against Liu Biao, one of the most powerful men in central China at the start of the conflict. Doing so allows him to undermine Liu Biao's vassals and possibly bring them into his alliance later.

The Division 2 Raid Will Not Have Matchmaking
The Division 2’s upcoming Dark Hours raid will require pre-made teams of eight players, despite Ubisoft promising matchmaking for all of the game’s activities.
Talking to a fan on Twitter, Alexandre Guenounou, who works as part of The Division 2’s marketing team, said “There is no matchmaking, you have to team up through clan lists, their friends lists or by inviting other players in the game social spaces before you launch the raid.”

World of Warcraft Classic Release Date Announced
Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft Classic will be released for PC and Mac on August 27, 2019, and will arrive alongside a collector's edition that celebrates WoW's 15-year anniversary.
On August 27, players will be able to return to Azeroth as it was during the Drums of War update (patch 1.12) and all will have the honor of once again being able to "assemble a 40-player raid to take on the fiery hazards of Molten Core; fight for their faction in the ongoing world PvP struggle between Southshore and Tarren Mill; muster a realm-wide war effort to open the gates of Ahn’Qiraj; and much more."
Following its release, WoW Classic will receive updates over multiple phases that will be released in a similar fashion to the original's order and all of this and more will be included with existing World of Warcraft subscriptions at no additional cost.

World of Warcraft Classic Is More Than Just Nostalgia
World of Warcraft Classic is launching on August 27th for anyone with a WoW subscription and closed beta testing begins for a select few on May 15th. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a prefabricated level 40 character at a preview event in Irvine, California. The ensuing hours of laughter and high jinks reassured me that WoW Classic has much more to offer than just nostalgia.
WoW Classic is a faithful recreation of the illustrious MMO as it existed in patch 1.12 circa 2006. There are a few modern amenities like a somewhat enhanced suite of graphics options, modern server architecture, and access to Battle.net social features but otherwise what’s here is as true as possible to the more-than-decade-old source material.

Described as a new chapter of gameplay, the Twilight Garden exists as a complimentary experience to the main game that introduces additional environments, challenges and story. A Plague Tale: Innocence Review
Blending fantasy with the Black Death, A Plague: Tale Innocence succeeds in telling the heartfelt survival story of two orphans, Amicia and Hugo. The dynamic between the siblings shines against a grim backdrop riddled with corpses, Inquisition soldiers out for blood, and thousands of Bubonic Plague-carrying rats. A Plague Tale does an admirable job of making its young protagonists appropriately vulnerable to the surrounding dangers as you move through them from a third-person perspective, but the stealth gameplay and puzzles rarely feel imaginative. As a result, the stakes of this seemingly perilous world are undercut.
The siblings had never had much of a relationship growing up as mid-14th-century French nobles, but when Amicia is suddenly forced into the role of young Hugo’s protector, they quickly need to learn to trust one another. This theme drives the story in interesting directions and is also smartly reflected through the gameplay. The majority of the 17 linear chapters see you controlling Amicia, with Hugo holding onto your hand by default. You can let go to move quicker, but if you leave him for too long he will scream and attract the attention of soldiers. Besides a few puzzles, I very rarely felt the need to let go.
